Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Azrou - Midelt
5 Days desert tour Fes to Marrakech starts in Fes early in the morning. We will pick you up at your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned private vehicle. The tour starts off with a scenic road drive to the town of Midelt. We will pass through a picturesque landscape, numerous small towns, small kasbahs, ancient ruins, and Berber villages among other fascinating places. Our first stop is going to be Ifrane. This small resort town is commonly known as the Moroccan Switzerland due to its incredibly clean environment. We will explore the town before heading on to our next stops – Azrou and Midelt.
On our way we will come across more Moroccan villages, small kasbahs, and beautiful mountainous landscapes. At Azrou is where you find the cedar forest known for its amiable Barbary macaque monkeys. We will get to look around in the forest and play with the monkeys before driving 124 km to Midelt where we will be stopping for the night.
Day 2: Midelt - Merzouga
If you want to get to know the magical sunrises in Morocco, wake up early to witness one over Midelt. We start the day taking a look around on the small town. Midelt has some interesting historical background, having been a French mining outpost in the 20th century. Nowadays the area is known for its apple growing, fossils, and beautiful landscape. Some of the fascinating attractions in Midelt are Aguelmous, Eglise de Midelt, Gorges d’Aouli, and Notre Dame de l’Atlas monastery.
In the afternoon we will head on to Merzouga, a small Moroccan town near the Algerian border. At Merzouga you will get to enjoy one of the most exciting camel rides. You will be climbing giant sand dunes, enjoying a beautiful sunset, and experiencing the silence of the desert at night. We will spend the night at a traditional Berber nomad camp, and get a taste of the local food. You will get to listen to traditional Berber music and partake in dances around the campfire before nightfall. The starry skies above the desert at night will be an extraordinary sight to end the day with.
Day 3: Merzouga - Khamlia – Rissani - Merzouga
On the 3rd day of your 5 days desert tour Fes to Marrakech, we wake up early in the morning and we get to watch the sun come up against the backdrop of the sand dunes in the desert. It’s a picturesque start to the day. Then it's time to leave the nomad camp behind. A camel ride will take you back to Merzouga where our driver will be waiting to take you on a drive deeper into the desert.
A little freshening up and we will take a ride in a 4x4 off-road vehicle to Hassilabied and Khamlia villages. In this quiet area we can meet nomads living in the desert, and hear local tribesmen perform live Gnawa music and sing. Being off-road we get to visit more oases and sites off the beaten path. Concluding with a visit to the souks of Rissani in the evening we will be driving back to Merzouga for the night.
Day 4: Merzouga - Todra Gorge
After a nice breakfast in the morning we will continue with our journey. The day will be spent at Todra Gorge. To get there we pass through a breathtaking landscape with the climate becoming less desert-like as the verdant fields gradually come into our sight. We will pass several small towns and Berber villages along the way. Upon arriving we will have lunch at a restaurant serving local cuisine. The remaining part of the day will be spent exploring the natural beauty of Todra Gorge.
The massive canyons that are around 400 meters deep are the main attraction in the area. The site is a great opportunity for taking pictures to save the moment for the rest of your life. We will walk around the Todra Valley and visit major oases found alongside it. It will be fun hiking the river gorges on foot. If you have enough time we will also visit gardens along the riverside and tribal villages to get a feeling of the local culture. The evening will pass to an idyllic sunset before turning in at a hotel for the night.
Day 5: Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech
On the last day of our 5 days desert tour Fes to Marrakech we drive from Todra Gorge to Ouarzazate. The city which is also called 'the door of the desert' offers a perfect balance of old and modern civilization. We will visit the kasbahs of Taourirt and Tifoultoute, Ouarzazate’s main square, and the Atlas Film Studios. After our visit to the studios, we will drive to see the magnificent village of Ait Benhaddou close by. The most popular kasbah of the country is located in this village. Ait Benhaddou is over 1200 years old, and roaming its passages and alleways feels like walking in the ancient world. We will explore the village and its historical characteristics, and have lunch at one of the restaurants there.
In the evening we will cover the last stretch of our 5 days desert tour Fes to Marrakech. The drive from Ait Benhaddou to Marrakech is probably the most scenic of the journey. It offers breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka pass. We will stop in several places to properly see and take in the beauty of the pass and the picturesque snowcapped peaks. By the evening we should reach Marrakech, our end destination of the voyage. Our driver will drop you off at your accommodations.
